Facebook to make surprise announcement today

Facebook has sent out invites today for a press event taking place later today at the company’s New York headquarters. Facebook’s chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, will be joined by Mike Schroepfer, Facebook VP of engineering, and interestingly, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

No details of what this could be about, but we assume it will be something major.
