Google to display anti-SOPA message
Google may not be shutting down its search service but according to CNET Google will be displaying a link on its search engine tomorrow to notify users of the company’s opposition to the anti-piracy bill SOPA being debated in U.S. Congress.
Google will be joining sites such as Wikipedia and Reddit to protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act which are being backed my large media and entertainment companies.
A Google spokeswoman said: ”Like many businesses, entrepreneurs and web users, we oppose these bills because there are smart, targeted ways to shut down foreign rogue websites without asking American companies to censor the Internet,” she added: “So tomorrow we will be joining many other tech companies to highlight this issue on our US home page.”
Google have said the message will not replace the Google logo but the page will feature a link. While Wikipedia is planning a complete blackout for 24 hours.
