Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has confirmed that they now have no plans to offer video game rentals, speaking at the Q4 investor meeting. Hastings didn’t say if they ever would in the future but he did confirm that Netflix is looking into 3D streaming options to supplement its Blu-ray 3D disc rental service.

That’s actually very surprising news to hear. I’m shocked that Netflix nixed their plans for video games; I think they would have got a bunch of new subscribers. I’m a pretty big gamer, so having a service that can offer me all my entertainment needs in one is a big must. It’s pretty annoying having so many accounts for different things, so that’s why I decided to give the Blockbuster @Home package a shot from my TV provider Dish. I get DVD’s and games by mail, streaming options and premium movie channels for only $10 a month, so it’s a pretty great alternative to what Netflix offers. Unlike Netflix though, I also get Blu-rays at no cost and unlimited in-store exchanges and I just heard from a co-worker of mine at Dish that a bunch of new titles were just added to the service too, so I’m pretty excited about that. I probably would have given Netflix another try if they decided to add video games into the mix, but now with this sad news I guess they’ve lost this subscriber forever.

Got something to say? Go for it!
