Politico is reporting that during Obama’s re-election campaign he is providing headquarters staff, volunteers and field organisers with the ability to take campaign donations with their mobile phones using the Square card reader. The technology saves the campaign hundreds of hours of time processing donations and gives field staff enormous flexibility.

Square Inc is a company founded by Jack Dorsey who is also the  creator of Twitter, and Jim McKelvey who is also a board member at LockerDome. Square has received angel investment from Marissa Mayer, Kevin Rose, Biz Stone, Dennis Crowley, Shawn Fanning, Ed Cramer, and Esther Dyson.
