At its press conference today, Amazon has announced the brand new Kindle Paperwhite. The new Kindle is a touchscreen device like the Kindle Touch from last year, and is backlit for viewing in dark places. According to Jeff Bezos, CEO OF Amazon, it “Doesn’t cause any eye strain”. The device also features a display that Amazon calls Paperwhite which gives 25% more contract, makes white more whiter, blacks more blacker, and is 212 PPI, which is 62% more pixels than the previous model. According to Amazon the new Kindle Paperwhite will have 8 weeks of battery life.
The device will retail at $119 for the Wi-Fi version and $179 for the 3G version. It will start shipping October 1st.
