Amazon acquires Double Helix, makers of Killer Instinct

By Stephen Robinson @xstex · On 6 February, 2014

Amazon has released a statement confirming that they’ve acquired Double Helix, makers of the Xbox one game Killer Instinct. The deal was for both IP and talent, financial details have not been disclosed.

Amazon told TechCrunch:

Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers.

This comes after rumours that Amazon is planning to release its own gaming console this year, with some sites claiming that it will be an Android console that has dedicated games and entertainment from Amazon. Other rumours have suggested that the company is preparing to launch a Qualcomm-based console. Whatever happens Amazon is clearly getting delving into gaming in one way or another, even if it’s just publishing.
