A look at TomTom’s Runner Cardio, a fitness watch with heartrate monitor

By Stephen Robinson @xstex · On 28 July, 2014

TomTom is world famous for its in-car navigation systems, but recently the company has been getting into different types of GPS technology such as the Runner Cardio watch. With the ever growing sign of wearables being the next big thing, this is clearly a great business decision.

The Runner Cardio features a large 22x25mm display that shows real-time running information (indoor and outdoor support) including your distance, time, pace, speed and calories burnt. It features five intensity zones depending on your needs - Sprint, Speed, Endure, Fat Burn and Easy. It also allows you to race your past performances to improve, achieve your set goals and see laps and interval training. The TomTom Runner Cardio also allows you to stay in your optimal heart zone thanks to its built-in heart rate monitor which has been independently tested and found to be extremely accurate compared to devices that feature electrocardiography.

The TomTom Runner Cardio also connects to the TomTom MySports website and syncs your data from your smartphone. MySports stores all your data and allows you to review your progress with a graphical dashboard, see your activies on a map, start up training sessions, manage multiple activies and receive progress updates on your latest stats, records and milestones.

Other cool additions to the Runner Cardio include battery life that lasts up to 8 hours on GPS+HR which is perfect for those long runs, and waterproofing of 50m (165 feet) so you won’t need to take it off very often.

The Runner Cardio comes in red on black and red on white models so it stands out much more than devices by other manufacturers. The strap is made from a flexible rubber than holds the GPS module an watch display and secures to the wrist with a three-pronged clasp.

The TomTom Runner Cardio makes many great improvements on its predecessor and is definitely worth a look if you’re into keeping fit. Be sure to check out the video above to watch Victoria’s Secret model Alexandria Morgan run with the Runner Cardio.
