Ballmer hints that Stephen Elop is in running to be Microsoft CEO

Stephen Elop has stepped down as Nokia CEO now that Microsoft has purchased its Devices & Services business and many thought he may have a shot at becoming Microsoft’s next CEO, turns out that may just be correct.

In an interview with the Seattle Times Microsoft’s soon to retire CEO Steve Ballmer hinted that Elop is in the running for the position:

Stephen will go from external [candidate] to internal. So the personable mobile exec will be keeping his name badge either way — time will tell, of course, which washroom he ultimately gets the key for.

While in no way is this a confirmation that he is being considered we would take a guess that it’s highly likely.
