LG and Google have officially announced the Nexus 5 smartphone following the success of the Nexus 4. The Nexus 5 has a 5-inch Full HD IPS display (445 PPI) (1920 x 1080 pixels), is the first smartphone to feature Android 4.4 KitKat, is the slimmest and fastest Google Nexus phone, and is packed with new features.

The Nexus 5 features the latest Snapdragon 800 processor with a 2.26GHz Quad-Core Krait CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 2,300mAh Li Poymer battery, 4G/LTE, wireless charging, NFC, and the usual bells and whistles.

The rear camera on the Nexus 5 is an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization that was first featured in LG’s G2 smartphone. LG says the camera will have longer exposures, less blur and less noise, as well as unmatched dim light performance. The front shooter is a 1.3-megapixel HD camera.

Android 4.4 KitKat is Google’s latest version of Android, it features a new dialer that automatically suggests people that you most likely call, Caller ID which matches incoming calls to a business even if that number isn’t stored in your contact list, plus users can send and receive text messages directly from the Hangouts app. Hangouts for Android also now supports location sharing.

Sundar Pichai, senior vice president of Android, Chrome and Apps at Google said:

We’re excited to collaborate with LG on a new Nexus device. Google Nexus 5 is the slimmest and fastest Nexus phone to date and puts the latest platform innovations of Android 4.4, KitKat, right in the hands of consumers.

The Nexus 5 comes in both 16GB and 32GB versions and is available in black and white. The 16GB model will set you back $349/£299, while the 32GB model will cost you $399/£339. You can grab one today over on Google Play.
